I couldn't resist posting this article in today's New York Times about "brokeback" marriages. It's a fascinating piece, but feels dated somehow, like maybe early 1990s, pre-Clinton years. It made me think of that great moment in "Waiting for Guffman" when Chris Guest, playing Corky, explains how he buys all of his wife's clothes. Obvious, right? Not so fast.

I remember when former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey came out as a gay man in a highly publicized press conference, his "brokeback marriage" now, officially, just broke. Caitlin and I were in the "Loggerheads" editing room when she got a call from her friend, a producers at "Nightline." It was a big story, he said. When Caitlin hung up the phone and told me, I remember saying I always thought McGreevey seemed gay. I know, it seems like such a cliché or stereotype when one gay man asserts the gay orientation of a (presumably) straight man, especially a public figure. But the fact is, McGreevey seemed gay to me! Later, when I was on the subway with Drew, I told him the news. His response? "I thought he was already out."

See what I mean? People get married for all kinds of reasons. Ah, well... Who knows the mysteries of the human heart?

Friday night, "Loggerheads" received the award for Best Independent Film of the Year at the 2006 Glitter Awards. The award was announced by the gay duo, Lynn and Alex, from the Emmy-winning reality show "The Amazing Race," a permanent TiVo fixture at home.

I ran into Frank DeCaro, one of the funniest and nicest people around, who invited me to come on his fantastic Sirius radio show for the "Loggerheads" dvd release on March 21. He also said he'd just shot the first several episodes of the (very gay) new "I've Got A Secret" for the GSN alongside former pro baseball player Billy Bean and comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer.
